Where has the time gone? Bustles, Ruffles and Steampunk themes
This last weekend we made the 5 hour drive up to Derbyshire from Suffolk for the Cirque Du Temps bellydance festival. Wow did the weather behave badly, but what a lovely welcome we had. Fantastic event, with some amazing dancers and bands performing, which I am hoping will be on again next year. All run in aid of the Air Ambulance, with much hard work by Demolitia Tribal and her trusty team! We sold several items to some lovely people.
Check out some of the photos from this year in their Facebook group Cirque 2011
There has been lots of work to do since moving, so unfortunately my ArtFire shop has been not kept as regularly updated as I would have liked, despite making lots of new things! It's really amazing how much time you have to put into the 'computer stuff' when you make handmade.
As we were going to Cirque this year and the theme was Steampunk, I made this bustle belt in golden hues for the event. Bustles and Ruffles have taken over the shop right now.

New Gypsy Twist Skirt Design Completed for ArtFire
I finally have gotten round to finishing, photographing and listing my new skirt design at Vaudeville Gypsy. I'm so pleased with how it's turned out. It really has a gorgeous shape when worn, is extremely flattering and moves beautifully. I wish I had been able to get more of this printed fabric but this is going to be a complete one off with this combination of elements. I think I've achieved a good balance in fusing style elements from Victorian/Edwardian and early 1920s Flappers. It's asymmetrical, ruched, gathered, swagged and made with lots of love! One side is open to thigh high to allow ease of movement when dancing. I hope you like it!

Studio Sale @ Vaudeville Gypsy on ArtFire
I'm spreading the love this Valentines by holding a studio-wide sale on ArtFire. I have a nice selection of hair jewels from bobby pins to headbands to glamorous fascinators. Great for a mysterious evening assignation! My hair ornaments are heavily influenced by Vintage aesthetics and use beautiful elements including Vintage jewellery, feathers and millinery flowers. Also in the studio you can find other handmade jewellery and accessories, tribal costuming and signed Vintage pieces.
So if you'd like to find something unique for a loved one, or even to treat yourself, please take a look whilst my Sale is on

Cameleon Art
Can we save the planet with beauty? Well, probably not, but it certainly makes it more fun. I do get a kick out of using discarded, forgotten elements in my work, turning one persons 'rubbish' into another's treasure or future heirloom. Taking things apart and putting them back together in a totally unexpected way. I got the recycling, upcycling, repurposing bug when I was at University and I love art created with found objects.
One of my little efforts was a light from recycled wool jumpers, play pit & ping pong balls, and LEDs which we still use.
So I had a little look around ArtFire to see what recyclers were about. I was pleasantly surprised and made this little collection: Cameleon Art to celebrate their efforts. Here's a preview below, but try the link and explore their studios further to see just how inventive and creative these people are.

Kitsch and Quirky
I have to be honest, there is something about Kitsch and Quirky that I find hard to resist. I've been having fun this afternoon sat here in Balham, drinking a cup of delicious Waitrose Dark Chocolate drink, browsing through ArtFire looking for some of the more unusual items people have made and wonderful vintage originals. ArtFire certainly didn't disappoint.
I've put together a joyful collection of some of my finds which can be found here: Kitsch n Quirky from members of one of the ArtFire Guilds I belong to who also have a Facebook group On Fire For Handmade
Here's a snapshot of the collection, but click on the link above or the caption for the photo so you can see the fun items I found more clearly, you won't be disappointed!
